"Why Photography?" Prof. South asked.
I think:
Photography is a pair of sunglasses. We all have an innate interest in people's face. Right? Portraits are all about the eyes, the wrinkles, the Greek nose, but nothing about the knees. Yet, we've grown up being told not to stare at people because you might freak them out. Would we really? That's another topic. But, have you seen those people who put on sunglasses at nude beaches so they can secretly stare? Photography gives us a chance to look and to see in the "Window to the Soul."
Photography is a tool. As long as you are attentive and insightful about the world and people around you, you can take beautiful, story-inducing, resonating photographs. There is no trick and ten years of apprenticeship before you can use it to tell your story. Maybe, one day, I can help people in Thailand tell their story, like it has never been done before.
Photography is magic. Our world passes us by like a bowl of water that is poured onto hot, dry sand; there is no return. Photography can help us pause the moments for a revisit. It reveals secrets.
Photography is down to earth.
I like it.
Have you seen this movie? Seriously moving...
