I found out that all of Etafeni's infrastructure is built by workers from Nyanga, trained by the Trust. Stephanie told me, "I asked the counselors to find me 50 people they know who have no employment skills, income and are in desparate need for a job. We train them construction skill and they built our center." How beautiful. This kind of patience and sensativity to include the local community to participate in the creation of a center that eventually is there to support them, is rare. Every brick, every window pane, works towards Etafeni’s goal. Also, instead of getting funding from foreign foundations, Etafeni went through all the effort so that the local government would be involved. Stephanie, "I believe that the local government needs to be responsible and involved." Although difficult to persuade, now Etafeni’s nutrition program, the food garden, and the antiretroviral for the third stage HIV positive patients. Every bit matters. Every bit counts.
